10th Cross Country Race for Mangrove Conservation

Mangroves are powerful carbon sinks support biodiversity, protect coastal communities, and act as natural defences against storm surges, tsunamis, rising sea levels and erosion. The International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, observed on 26th July, aims to raise awareness about their importance and promote sustainable conservation.

In observance of World Mangrove Day, Yuvabharathi Public School held its 10th Cross Country Race on 18th July 2026 to raise awareness about Mangrove Forest Conservation. More than 660 harriers, including students from Grades 4 to 12 and parents, participated in the 10th cross country race in the 3 km, 5 km, and 7 km categories. The 3 km race was flagged off by the Vice Principal, Mrs. Pinky V Katara; the 5 km race by Dr. Roshini Manoj, Principal of Yuvabharathi Nursery School; and the 7 km race by the Executive Director, Mrs. Nehaarika Sanjeev and the Principal, Mrs. Sindhu Joseph.

The harriers began their routes from Madathur, Dhaliyur, and Pannimadai, and concluded the event at the school premises. Every runner who crossed the finish line, emphasising fitness and the environmental cause, received a medal. The felicitation ceremony that followed was graced by the Correspondent, Mr. Sanjeev Anand, the Executive Director, Mrs. Nehaarika Sanjeev and the Principal, Mrs. Sindhu Joseph. The dignitaries appreciated the harriers and the school's commitment to environmental consciousness and conservation. The winners across all categories were honoured with medals and certificates. The event blended fitness, family, and a commitment to the environment.
